Dr. C. Ian Newberry is a leading provider of specialized otolaryngology-head and neck surgery services. With extensive training in otology (ear surgery), cochlear implants, functional rhinoplasty, complex pediatric cases, and head and neck cancers, the team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality care to patients of all ages. Backed by top 20 nationally ranked otolaryngology residency and advanced fellowship training, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments to address a wide variety of ear, nose, and throat conditions.

Dr. C. Ian Newberry is originally from a small, rural southeast Missouri town in the middle of the “Ozarks” where he graduated Valedictorian of his high school class then attended undergrad at a top ranked pre-medical school, Saint Louis University. After graduating college with the highest honors, summa cum laude, Dr. Newberry graduated at the top of his medical school class with cum laude honors, scored in the top 1% on the national board examinations, and was one of four students selected as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.
With his love of the mountains and surgery, he was accepted into the University of Utah Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency program, which is consistently nationally ranked as a top 20 Otolaryngology program and is well-known for being one of the busiest resident operative experiences in the nation. He achieved great success during residency where he scored in the top 1% nationally every year on the otolaryngology specific examination, gave numerous national conference presentations around the country, and published over 30 journal publications and book chapters. Following residency, he was accepted into a distinguished Pediatric Otolaryngology and Craniofacial Reconstruction fellowship at a top ranked program, Washington University in St. Louis (WashU). Now a clinical professor at Brown, Dr. Newberry practices medical, surgical and cosmetic otolaryngology, treating most aspects of the head and neck in patients of all ages.
When not working or spending time with his wife and two children, Dr. Newberry devotes his time to running, working out, and enjoys many outdoor hobbies—skiing, mountain biking, camping, and paddleboarding (still trying to learn to surf well)

Dr. Newberry has a particular interest in otology (disorders of the ear and hearing loss) and is one of the few surgeons in Rhode Island able to offer surgical services for many types of ear disease such as: tympanoplasty (repair of hole in the eardrum), endoscopic ear surgery, stapedotomy (treatment of otosclerosis), middle ear bone/ossicular reconstruction, cholesteatoma surgery (chronic disease of the middle ear), pulsatile tinnitus treatment, and placement of special implants to allow patients to hear again including bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA/OSIA), and cochlear implant surgery for severe hearing loss.
Dr. Newberry also works in conjunction with neurosurgery to address sinonasal and otolgic diseases extending into the brain region.
Dr. Newberry has helped progress the field of otolaryngology, having over 30 book chapters and peer-reviewed journal publications.
With almost 300 citations, numerous national talks, and continued research as well as teaching assignments as a clinical professor at Brown School of Medicine and Tufts University, Dr. Newberry strives to provide the most up to date, efficacious treatments for his patients.

Dr. Newberry tries to ensure all Rhode Islanders can obtain outstanding care and in as timely of fashion as possible. He provides care out of The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Childrens Hospital, Our Lady of Fatima, Kent Hospital, as well as The Surgery Center of Rhode Island. His clinics are located across the state for patient convenience in Providence, Cumberland, and Johnston.
